Mapping data isn’t as easy as arranging ABCs and 123s; data comes in lots of different formats, languages, it sits in different kinds of code and computers, and it’s even shaped by different laws.
Untangling this gordian knot can be a tough gig when you want to offer easy-breezy business intelligence to companies across the globe. And that’s where our data mapping team steps in!
In this piece, we get to know some of our data mapping team, meeting Kat, Kye, and Rory. They tell us about themselves, their roles, and what they like to get up to outside of work.
What Does the Data Mapping Team Do? 💡
Because our data arrives from so many sources like registries, partner databases and payment records, it means we also get it in many different formats. The team’s job is to map this data and translate it into a universal format that our products can use and serve to our customers, whether it’s credit reports, risk models, or outputs from our APIs.
That works at technical and less technical levels; the data mapping team can be involved in translating financial and legal terminology between countries, different ways of structuring and notating data itself like XML and JSON, and ensuring data is mapped so it can be processed according to regulatory frameworks too. They take this diverse puzzlework and piece it together, making the data meaningful and useful.
With data processes and structures mapped, a process can be drawn from A to Z that ensures the data is consistently translated into our internal data schema, eventually arriving to our customers as clear and consistently formatted insights.
Aside from taking part in projects like when we’re working with new territories and data suppliers, the team also supports our staff and customers with questions and issues they might be having.

Tell us about yourself and what you do!
I am the Team Lead of our Entity and Partner Data Mapping Team. I began my journey at Creditsafe nearly five years ago as a Data Analyst, after previously working as a junior data analyst at Deloitte. In my current role, I focus on delegating project tasks to team members, providing them with support when needed, and ensuring they have the necessary information and guidance to perform their work effectively. I collaborate closely with several teams, as our group is responsible for managing numerous mapping projects that involve both entities and partners.

Tell us about yourself and what you do!
Hi, I’m Rory! I’ve been with Creditsafe for just under two years and I’m based in the Cardiff bay office. I joined from the Office for National Statistics where I completed a degree apprenticeship in Data Science. I currently work as a Data Analyst in the Group API and International Partner team, mainly focusing on entity mapping. This involves translating local entity feeds into the API which is then outputted in a customer-friendly format. It also involves fixing data bugs, and testing new or updated data changes to ensure accuracy and reliability.
What do you enjoy about working at Creditsafe?
The best part of working at Creditsafe is definitely the people. Since joining, every collaboration within data mapping or with different teams has been a positive experience. The supportive and friendly culture makes tackling challenges enjoyable and creates a great environment for learning and growth.
What do you like to do outside of work?
Outside of work, I’m a keen golfer and spend most weekends on the course—weather permitting! I also enjoy staying active and trying new hobbies. My latest obsession is padel, which has quickly become a favourite pastime alongside golf.

Hi, I’m Kye! I’ve been with Creditsafe Group for just under 18 months and I’m based in the Cardiff bay office. I joined from Creditsafe UK office where I spent over seven years as a data analyst working on the UK Data Team. I currently work as a Data Analyst in the Group API and International Partner team, mainly focusing on mapping entity data feeds into the API which is fed into many of our products. We apply mapping rules and logic to the local entity data to enrich the data and output in a customer friendly format. It also involves fixing data bugs, responding to API customer based queries and testing new or updated data changes to ensure accuracy and reliability.
What do you enjoy about working at Creditsafe?
The best part of working at Creditsafe is definitely the culture and the people. It’s unlike any other work place, it’s friendly, fun and an enjoyable place to work.
What do you like to do outside of work?
Outside of work, most of my time is taken up playing rugby. I play for Abercwmboi RFC, I’ve played rugby practically all of my life, since the age of 4 and have been at the same club since that time (almost 25 years). Other than rugby, I enjoy going to the gym and love the occasional game of squash.
