How Two Auditors Are Shaping A Safer and Risk-Free Creditsafe <\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Let\u2019s be honest, when we hear the word \u2018audit\u2019, it\u2019s rather rare for our heart-rates to slow down. But what actually lies behind a title? Who better to explain than our two new auditors, Aziz and Greeshma! <\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

We had the pleasure of getting to know them, their work, and the impact its having across Creditsafe.  Get to know what the day in the life of an auditor is really like, Aziz and Greesham\u2019s backgrounds, and what they\u2019d like you to know about their roles. Let\u2019s dive in!<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

Meet Greeshma and Aziz: Two Paths into Auditing<\/span> <\/span><\/b><\/h2>\n

Among the beatings hearts of Creditsafe\u2019s Governance, Risk, and Compliance team are Greeshma and Aziz, who came into their line of work from distinctive backgrounds and perspectives.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

Aziz, who has a specialty in finance and risk, joined Creditsafe after years of auditing for a Protiviti, a consultancy firm in Dubai. On his role, he reflects: <\/span>\u201cWe\u2019re here to help departments enhance their controls. Our goal isn\u2019t to catch mistakes, but to support teams in minimising risks and following best practices.\u201d<\/span><\/i> He\u2019s quick to emphasise that auditing is really about partnership, not policing! <\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

After being a developer for a time and earning her MBA in India, Greeshma decided to journey into the world of auditing. <\/span>\u201cI started as a software developer, but I soon realized I wanted to work where my job is not redundant\u2014where I can have a lasting impact. Auditing brought together my technical skills and my passion for problem-solving.\u201d. <\/span><\/i>She went on to work for EY as an Auditor before making the move to join Creditsafe. <\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

What\u2019s The Work Like as an Auditor? <\/span> <\/span><\/b><\/h2>\n

Greeshma and Aziz are working on a range of projects, with each bringing their unique expertise to the table. Greeshma\u2019s current focus includes authentication audits and identity & access management. She explains, <\/span>\u201cI love investigating\u2014gathering evidence, documenting gaps, and helping teams make their systems stronger. It\u2019s about making sure things work as intended, not just checking boxes.\u201d<\/span><\/i> <\/span><\/p>\n

Aziz\u2019s portfolio features audits for the Project Management Office (PMO) and our intellectual property. He shares, <\/span>\u201cOnce we identify risks and controls, we help teams to act. Internal audit is about supporting improvements and advocating for change where it\u2019s needed.\u201d<\/span><\/i> <\/span><\/p>\n

Their workload varies by the day and can look like holding discovery meetings with stakeholders, mapping and documenting processes and security controls, and testing that they work as planned. They seek to seal any gaps and encourage changes that help other teams to make progress on their goals alongside their compliance. <\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

Both Aziz and Greesham agree that the Creditsafe culture makes their work meaningful. As Greeshma notes, <\/span>\u201cPeople here value audits\u2014they see us as allies. It\u2019s refreshing to have calls where everyone is eager to collaborate.\u201d<\/span><\/i> As for Aziz, he adds, <\/span>\u201cThe openness and diversity in the company create a welcoming atmosphere. It\u2019s always rewarding to see our work making a difference.\u201d<\/span><\/i> <\/span><\/p>\n

What Would You Like People to Know about Auditing? <\/span> <\/span><\/b><\/h2>\n

Right off the bat, Aziz and Greeshma wanted us to know we shouldn\u2019t be scared! They share a similar view about auditing: it\u2019s really about stopping fires before they can start and helping us to innovate <\/span>and <\/span><\/i>stay out of trouble, rather than catching people out.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

Aziz is keen to point out, <\/span>\u201cI would love people to first of all not be scared of us and be very open with us when we coming to speak to you, as I want them to understand as an internal auditor we’re here to help you perform your job better. <\/span><\/i>While Greeshma adds \u201c<\/span>You’re awesome, you’re good with your knowledge, you’re good with your work. We are not looking at that…we are checking whether you’re operations are in safe harbour or not.\u201d<\/span><\/i> <\/span><\/p>\n

Their hope is that by working collaboratively, audits also become opportunities for growth and improvement across the company, not only compliance. <\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

Overcoming Challenges and Building Connections<\/span> <\/span><\/b><\/h2>\n

Of course, their work is not without hurdles. Greeshma recalls, <\/span>\u201cIt can take time to find the right stakeholders, especially for new audits. But the team always helps me connect with the right people, and that makes all the difference.\u201d<\/span><\/i> <\/span><\/p>\n

Aziz highlights the role of communication. <\/span>\u201cOur reports go to senior management. We often help teams get the support they need to prioritise important changes. Internal audit is as much about connecting people as it is about reviewing processes.\u201d<\/span><\/i> <\/span><\/p>\n

Both Aziz and Greeshma have very kind words to give about colleagues and the collaborative culture at Creditsafe, as well as their manager, Alex. Both wanted to mention their gratitude for the autonomy and trust he offers, coupled with the time and attentiveness he\u2019s given to ensure they feel settled in Cardiff, Creditsafe, and their roles. <\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

Paving The Way for Creditsafe\u2019s SOC 2 Certification<\/span> <\/span><\/b><\/h2>\n

A major area where Greeshma and Aziz\u2019s work is making an impact is in our journey to SOC 2\u2019s enterprise-grade security standards. Greeshma\u2019s audits of authentication, identity, and change management closely align with SOC 2\u2019s trust service criteria. <\/span>\u201cWe are telling the customers that your data is safe in our system. So that’s what SOC 2 is…Whatever report we are going to generate here is going for the clients, not for us. It’s not about our data, it’s about their data being safe in our systems.”.<\/span><\/i> <\/span><\/p>\n

Aziz\u2019s internal audits dovetail with SOC 2 requirements as he\u2019s often identifying and mitigating risks early, streamlining our compliance efforts, and preparing documentation that supports our SOC 2 compliance work. He notes, <\/span>\u201cWe’re here to help you to make your job better, to make your job easier by minimising risks and recommending better controls in place.\u201d<\/span><\/i> <\/span><\/p>\n

We need SOC2 because we\u2019re showing big companies we’re a trustworthy partner. Likewise, we\u2019re innovating to help our customers. Bridging innovation and risk, our security and compliance teams are helping us to pace ahead without getting tripped up.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n
